This project began with rezoning the site - a former parking lot - into five residential lots under a planned development, thereby converting a previously underutilized parcel into a small, cohesive neighborhood. The development cleaned up and reconnected the site to a natural detention area at the south, enhancing both stormwater management and the ecological character of the land. Located on one of the five lots, the Assell Residence is designed to maximize sweeping views of Colorado’s Front Range while preserving a sense of seclusion and privacy. Public spaces such as the vast main room and the exterior patio are oriented toward the site's views. When open, a bifolding glass wall between the great room and the patio gives continuity from inside to outside and allows a seamless flow. At the same time, the home is buffered from activity at an adjacent church through careful site placement and landscape design (including a putting green with artificial turf), creating a sheltered backyard retreat and privacy for the bedrooms.
